Panunuyo ng Pwerta (Vaginal Dryness)

Available at: Jeepney Press

Tanong: I'm already in my late 40's, single, menopause for the past 4 years. Whenever I make love with my current boyfriend, it really hurts and I feel dry. My old friend told me that there could be no secretion inside. What could be the remedy? Is there a supplement that I can take or do I have to resort to injection. I tried putting ez gel but it won’t work. Where can I consult and buy? I'm so desperate.

Doc Gino: Menopausal women experience vaginal dryness due to lack of estrogen--a kind of female hormone--in their body. Hormonal replacement therapy (HRT) is an effective solution to this problem. Because HRT is not without complications, a thorough gynecologic evaluation is essential. I suggest that you seek medical consult to a doctor who specializes in this field.

Unwanted Pregnancy/Dysmenorrhea

Available at: Jeepney Press

Ayaw maging buntis (Unwanted Pregnancy)
Tanong: gud evening. gusto ko lng po mag-ask kasi po i think im preggy, aug 22 po me last nagka-mens and regular ako... so dapat sept 20 something is dapat may mens ako... but til now october 1.. wala pa rin.. and i tried na rin ang pregnancy test minute ago... mga 11pm... but its POSITVE.. can i ask if totoo ba to???... sobrang depress me kc hindi tlaga pwede... ayoko pa...im not ready to have a child...ano po ba gawin ko??? anong pwedeng inumin na gamot para hindi ito mabuo?.. natatakot po ako... plzzz help me po.. thanks

Does IVF increase the risk of birth defects?

Previous studies have raised concerns that assisted reproductive technologies (ART) are more likely than natural methods to conceive children with birth disorders.

To test whether ART increases the risk of birth anomalies, Chinese researchers studied the records of 15,405 babies born between 2004 and 2008 from several medical centers.

Big moms, big babies

Here is an important reason why prenatal check ups to a health professional is vital during pregnancy. In a large scale study in the US involving more than half a million pregnant women between 1989 and 2003, researchers found that pregnant women who gained more than 24 kilos are predisposed to giving birth to babies who weigh more than 150 grams compared to women whose weight gain was 22 kilos or less.

We know the maternal complications of heart disease and metabolic problems--diabetes--when one is on the heavy side. On the other hand, the fetal effects could mean increased birth weight, and the possibility of diabetes later on in life. The chances of cesarean delivery is high with big babies.

In my opinion, faithful compliance to see your doctor and following their advices may help reduce the risk of in bundling up your weight. Read more below.

Normal pelvic ultrasound findings

Tanong: good day doc,
nagpacheck up po ako sa OB gyn last 2 weeks ago. and i made a papsmear test and transvaginal ultrasound. i wanted to have a baby, kaya nilakasan ko na loob ko na magpacheck up. ung result ng ultrasound ko po ay:
the uterus is anteverted, midline, normal in size
measuring 54mm x 28mm x 27mm with smooth outline and a thinned out
endometrial stripe measuring 8mm
Homogenous myometrial echopattern seen.
the cervix is closed. (22mm x 18mm).
Both ovaries are seen, RT: 21mm x 21mm- with follicles noted
within- the largest seen having a 12mm AP diameter.
the left ovary measures 25mm x 16mm with subcapsular cysts noted with echogenic struma.
Cul de sac is fluid free.

Vaginal gel lowers HIV/AIDS risk

Here is a new development in the field of HIV/AIDS. A vaginal gel that not only lubricates but also has blocking properties against the deadly virus. Although it only gives a maximum of 50 percent protection, it could be used to supplement male latex condoms to lower the risk of viral transmission in heterosexual contacts. However, more studies should be done for this to be conclusive. Read more below.

VIDEO: Robot-assisted operation for vaginal prolapse

It’s more common than you may think.

Vaginal prolapse (also called pelvic organ prolapse, or vaginal organ prolapse) is what happens when organs inside the pelvis fall, bulge or protrude into the vaginal wall. This condition is due to weakened muscles or ligaments that can occur from a number of causes, including childbirth, previous surgeries, and obesity. If you have signs and symptoms of vaginal prolapse, learning more about this condition (and discovering you have options!) can lead to a better way of life.

The 4:39 long video shows how the surgical procedure goes. Watch it.

VIDEO: Ectopic pregnancy removed by high-tech operation

An ectopic pregnancy is a complication of pregnancy in which the pregnancy implants outside the uterine cavity or the womb. With rare exceptions, ectopic pregnancies are not viable. Furthermore, they are dangerous for the mother, internal bleeding being a common complication. Most ectopic pregnancies occur in the Fallopian tube (so-called tubal pregnancies), but implantation can also occur in the cervix, ovaries, and abdominal area. An ectopic pregnancy is a potential medical emergency, and, if not treated properly, can lead to death.
